I apologize in advance as I've got to believe this topic has been covered over and over again. I did a quick search and nothing popped up. Also, I have both 444s and a 45-70. I killed my first bear with my Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70. So I'm not trying to champion one cartridge over the other...The 444 has a slight advantage in that it shoots a little flatter and has a higher velocity. It is capable of taking any North American game with the right bullet. Not knocking the 45 70, It is a very good cartridge. But the 444 has nothing to be ashamed of. It can hold its own against its bigger cousin. And I am a happy owner of a Marlin 444.
